Following the tips a friend from London gave me I ventured to see Shakespeare and Company bookshop in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. It’s a well-known bookshop even among tourists that sells only books in English. Located in the south bank of the Seine and facing Notre-Dame.
I went on a Sunday and it was quite busy but it’s like entering another world. Make your way through classics and modern literature books which are literally everywhere around you. Here every single surface is good to place books.
Apparently since its opening in 1951 many creatives and writers have slept here, in beds placed throughout the bookshop so that the place became even a boarding house for aspiring writers.
But it’s not done. Just turning the corner and going a bit straight ahead you will find Odette. You can’t miss it! It looks just so nice from the outside that you want to get closer and see how’s inside. And once you get in front of the shop window, I tell you, it’s going to be a though choice to step away!
Odette is a pastry shop specialised in cream puffs. Yes, in Paris there are so many pâtisseries that sometimes they only produce a particular kind of pastries. At Odette tou can choose different flavours of choux à la crème which are a round ball of soft dough filled with flavoured cream. Perfect place to go for a treat when you visit Notre-Dame or Shakespeare and Company bookshop.
