I guess just like everyone, when I travel I love sharing all the beautiful places I’ve visited and Instagram allows to make pictures useful for those who live in or will travel to that specific location.
So below is a list of top travel Instagram hashtags for you to write down (usually I create a note on my phone with all the hashtags I want to use so that they are ready to be copied-pasted when I post a picture) to make sure your photos are getting the maximum exposure.
But first just few tips I think you need to know:
- STAY RELEVANT
Always remember that hashtags on Instagram, as in any other social network, are made to collect images related to the same topic for an easier search. So just don’t post your selfie tagged #landscape.
- GOAL: BE FEATURED
That’s how you can really get lots of exposure. So prefer travel hashtags linked to regram accounts!
Usually this means that by using these kind of hashtags you want your photo to be seen by that specific community you’ve tagged your photo with and if the account’s administrator particularly likes your picture, this will be reposted on that feed. It’s a great way to get new followers and have your Instagram photos seen by a larger audience. So use these tags for a chance to be featured!

- POPULAR HASHTAGS: JUST FEW ONES
In my opinion it’s not worthy to use too many popular hashtags. That’s because when you tag your photo, let’s say using #travel, it will stay in the first page for just few seconds because many other people have been using the same top travel hashtag for their photos. So it’s better to focus on less popular and more targeted ones.
I personally use only #travel and #traveler but other ones you can choose are:

- DESCRIBE YOUR PICTURE
The best way to use travel hashtags on Instagram is to describe your picture using keywords. Start writing down your destination. It’s useful for your followers, random people who search for images from this place and even locals who look for something interesting in that area. You can begin with a country (or even continent) and get more specific about the place, like this:
#Europe #Spain #CanaryIslands #GranCanaria #LasPalmas #PlayaDeLasCanteras
Go on describing what’s on your photo but my suggestion is, even in this case, not to overdo, put just one or two relevant hashtags. I usually use #sunset, #foodporn, #coffee, #skyporn, #landscape depending on the subject.
- TAG LOCAL INSTAGRAM ACCOUNTS
Do a quick research and try to figure out the hashtags that local communities use. They’re always regram accounts looking for great photos to feature on their pages. These are different for every destination but I can help you with the most popular in London, I’ll share the same ones I use!

- THINK OF YOUR OWN HASHTAG
Creating your own hashtags is a brilliant idea to keep track of all of your pictures within the same topic or destinations. I personally use them to showcase and keep all my previous pictures from a certain place together!
They all start with #sXp_(city name)Moments. So here you have a few.
So there you have it! Hope this has been useful for you, if you have questions let me know in the comments and I’ll answer you.
